With the production start on Sony’s Venom movie coming later this month, we’ve been keeping a close eye out for details and crew hirings for the film.
Previously, Omega Underground revealed that Weta Digital would be tackling the film’s visual effects and that Spider-Man: Homecoming‘s production designer Oliver Scholl would be crafting the look of the production (possibly to match Homecoming).
Well, we have a new tidbit to share that makes us slightly excited to see what Venom’s action sequences could look like, as Sony has hired a stunt coordination team for the film.
The film’s stunt team includes fight coordinator Tim Connolly (John Wick 1-2, Logan, 300, Watchmen, Man of Steel, The Avengers) along with Chris O’Hara (Live By Night, John Wick, Iron Man 3, The Avengers, Jurassic World) and Jack Gill (Fast & Furious 5-8, Bad Boys 2, Captain America: Civil War) acting as the film’s stunt coordinators.
O’Hara was a stunt coordinator on Red Sparrow, Bourne Legacy, and Sony’s Baby Driver.
The interesting part is that both Tom and Chris are part of the 87 Eleven Action Designfamily.
87 Eleven is best known for their work on the John Wick and Matrix films but have branched out to comic book projects like Atomic Blonde, Captain America: Civil War, Deadpool 2, and Aquaman.
Their hirings might speak to the casting call we revealed that was seeking actors to play mercenaries. There is also a chance that Sony might be attempting to blend Eddie Brock’s origin with Ultimate Venom/Agent Venom, possibly making him ex-military who is given the symbiote in a lab experiment to repair his wounded body.
In the comics, Agent Venom (not Brock) uses guns consistently which might explain hiring John Wick alum, then again, they could be there just for the mercenary angle and their action chops.
The film’s cast includes Tom Hardy as Eddie Brock, Michelle Williams as Anne Weying (She-Venom), Riz Ahmed in an undisclosed role (possibly Carnage), and Jenny Slate in talks to play a scientist (we assume involved with Brock’s transformation).
Production will begin on October 23rd in Atlanta with scenes also expected to film in New York City, a wrap date is expected sometime in February.
Sony has set Venom’s release date for October 5th, 2018.
